Benefits for Higher Education Institutions
With the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) infrastructure and standards gradually becoming mandatory from 2021, having a unique student eID in place will allow student information to travel both seamlessly and reliably.
MyAcademicID will allow international relations staff dealing with student mobility to be certain that the information that they get from students through the Online Learning Agreement and the Erasmus+ Mobile App is authentic, avoiding lengthy paper-based verification procedures. This also means that students will be able to register and sign up for courses electronically using the academic credentials of their home institution before their mobility starts, avoiding the creation and management of new user accounts at their host institution and saving time and resources for everybody.
In the context of the European Student Card Initiative spearheaded by the European Commission, MyAcademicID will allow students to authenticate their student status when accessing electronic services abroad. Making the student status portable will help students to get the most out of their higher education experience wherever they go in Europe and to take with them the benefits of belonging to your institution.
In the future, the connections between the eduGAIN and the eIDAS networks will allow students to register at HEIs by using their national eID, providing high-levels of trust for HEIs. The federated authentication enabled by eduGAIN and eIDAS means that the student data will always stay in the hands of their respective HEIs.
