Benefits for service providers
As a service provider, you want to make sure that you reach the right audience. With over 5,000 higher education institutions (HEIs) holding an Erasmus Charter for Higher Education and more than 300,000 higher education students going abroad on mobility with Erasmus+ in 2017 alone, mobile higher education students benefit from the provision of several services: from the management of their mobility application through Erasmus+ to registering at their host institution, finding accommodation, opening a bank account and getting access to Wi-Fi or being eligible for student discounts at museums, public transport networks and online retailers.
Given the size of this group, e-service providers oftentimes want to offer niche services to mobile students or reward them with discounts and special deals. But first, you must make sure that a student is indeed one! If you are an e-service provider, the collaboration within MyAcademicID between GÉANT and the European Student Card Project will allow you to electronically verify the student status of the person requesting the service.
In the case of services related to the management of student mobility – such as the Erasmus+ Mobile App and the Online Learning Agreement – MyAcademicID will also allow service providers to request information on the home institution useful for completing the online templates required for applying for mobility under Erasmus+, saving time for students and increasing the trust of information flows between HEIs.
As more service providers join this scheme and the European eID scheme for higher education extends beyond mobile students and across countries, the possibilities for offering exciting new services for students will be endless!
